SCISSOR SISTERS
Scissor Sisters consist of three downtown celebutards: Ana Matronic, a mistress of disguise. Babydaddy, who's electronic compositions feature a down-low under-pop and frontman Jake Shears who provided the wry vocal delivery on Tigas popular club reworking of Nellys "Hot in Herre ". With vocal stylings that have been coined a blend of Sylvester and early George Michael, Shears expels electro-charged tales that range from hallucinating fashion industry prostitutes to adulterous rock'n roll hairdressers, injecting all with unabashed, hands-in-the air fun. Babydaddy and Shears originally met in Kentucky and were introduced by a mutual friend to Ana Matronic while waiting in the lobby for a screening of Captain EO at Disneyland. It was on the Teacup ride that the three realized they shared influences that range as wide as the early nineties Cologne acid scene to The Muppet Show; their sisterhood was sealed in the Haunted Mansion with a pair of rusted scissors and bound index fingers.
The Scissor Sisters have been on a tear since the spring, topping the album chart, selling out prestigious concert venues and scoring hit after hit in the U.K. and much of Europe. Theyve won praise from Kylie Minogue, Duran Duran and Elton John. But the real feat still lies ahead, as these New Yorkers prepare to bring it home and tear it up in their homeland.
Filthy Gorgeous
And then theres the hard-rock dancin ditty "Filthy/Gorgeous, " the albums true stunner. Musically, Its got the balls to merge hard-charging stadium rock with fancy-footwork disco. Lyrically, the song seems based on Shears prior work as a joie-de-vivre go-go dancer in Manhattan -- he rhymes "acid " with "flaccid " in one verse, and then, this: "Im a classy honey kissy huggy lovey dovey ghetto princess. " pitchforkmedia.com
Here available in 2 different mixes: Another red-hot mix by ATOC (in collaboration with Superbuddha) that blends catchy guitar riffs and screaming synths with Jakes trade-mark falsetto vocals into a punchy dance floor stormer and the extended edit of the Album version that is more on the Disco- House tip.
Comfortably Numb
"If you've yet to hear this bomb from the home of A Touch Of Class, the best descriptive analogy I could give would imagine the Bee Gees on acid making a record with Felix da Housecat. That over used electro - sound clash phrase is however very apt with this sure fire offering that's a juxtaposition of original and innovative with parody of the brothers Gibb distinctive falsetto stylings. A record that I firmly believe is set to breakdown boundaries and set the charts alight. " DMC Update UK by Lewis Dene
Comfortably Numb comes here in a "Psychedelic Dance Rock" Remix by A Touch Of Class and a "It's Hot In Herre" style Remix and Dub by Tiga as well as the Original extended mix.
Electrobix
Their debut single, "Electrobix," is the first dance track of it's kind to penetrate the silence surrounding gay body image issues. The song's haunting chorus, "You'd better pump your body, if you wanna be a hottie," will undoubtedly strike a chord not only with steadfast homosexuals, but those that love and covet their superior yet flawed lifestyle. Included on this record is apart of the original 12 mix the "Electrobix Passive Depressive remix" by The Hungry Wives, the dark new-wavers responsible for the electro hit "It's Over (I am Legendary, You are Not)."
